Why your shoulder pain won't go away

Shoulder pain is one of the most overlooked conditions.

Even though some shoulder pains subside after some time, the pain can be a symptom of a particular infection that shouldn’t be ignored.

While some might think it occurs due to fatigue, other underlying conditions have been linked to it.

Below are some of the causes as listed by William Morrison, MD, orthopaedic surgeon

Heart attack

A heart attack is one of the most dangerous scourges, recording many deaths. Various symptoms have been linked to a heart attack like chest discomfort, high blood pressure and shortness of breathing.

However, pain on your shoulders could mean that you have a heart attack. Be sure to see a medic to rule this out.

Arthritis

The disease is characterised by the inflammation of a joint causing pain, disability, swelling and stiffness. Arthritis is caused by infection, trauma, degenerative changes or metabolic disorders.

The disease can progress to the shoulder and cause pain.

Injury

Injuries can also contribute to shoulder pain. Shoulder pain could mean that you recently fell or you carried a heavy load that led to a bone injury on your shoulder.
